Design Optimization

Design Optimization

With decades of engineering experience, we can perform design optimization using engineering principles and computational analysis to perform design optimization. Our design optimization process is based on your input for a range of parameters including cost, weight, stress limits, stiffness, manufacturability, performance, and more.

Once an initial design is generated, we can start the optimization process which involves applying engineering methods along with computer analysis to gain a detailed understanding of the performance of your product.

The design optimization process involves the following

1. Introduction Meeting

During our introduction meeting, we will discuss your product, performance requirements, desired optimization outcome and how we will approach the project.

2. Initial Calculations

We start the optimization process by applying engineering calculations to your product design to gain initial insight into the performance of your design. These calculations also act to validate our computational analysis results in order to increase our confidence in the model.

3. Generate Computer Model

Using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), we will convert the 3D CAD model to an analysis-specific model that includes the appropriate material properties, interfaces, constraints, and loads. FEA and CFD allow us to accurately model a wide range of physical properties and behaviors to determine the product’s performance and to guide design improvements. Some examples of these properties include thermal behavior, vibrational response, fluid flow, stress, strain, and more.

4. Solve and Analyze the Computer Model

Once a solution to the model is obtained, we will compare the results to our initial calculation as a check to ensure that the model was built properly. We also apply our decades of engineering experience to check that the results are reasonable.

5. Design Optimization

Should the results be accepted, we begin optimizing the design by making goal driven design revisions in order to best meet with your design expectations. We iterate on this process until we obtain an optimal design.

The benefits of design optimization are improved performance, reduced material cost and product weight, extended product life, minimized hydraulic head loss, contained thermal loads, and more. Design optimization delivers an improved product and/or reduces unit cost giving you an advantage over your competition.
