ASR’s engineers use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as a tool to predict the structural and thermal performance of your product or solution. These predictions can be used for a wide range of applications.
- Show proof of concept in a proposal or pitch
- Make data-drive design decisions
- Optimize products for performance or cost
- Increase structural, thermal, or flow design efficiency
- Discover what caused a product to fail and implement a cost effective solution
Providing a Valuable Product
FEA is used to understand and predict product behavior. This information is extremely valuable for developing products in today’s competitive market. Long before prototypes are made, the mechanical performance can be understood and optimized. This optimization can be focused on improving performance or lowering cost or both. ASR’s talented engineers will work alongside your design team to drive your product where you need it to go. Along the way, you will become aware of the design trade-offs to allow you to make informed design decisions. Our work is fully documented in informative presentations and spreadsheets. You do not need to understand FEA to follow the results, but if you are a guru, you will be very comfortable with the information provided. Once built, the computer model becomes a valuable tool for future optimization, new applications, and the understanding field results. FEA models are a valuable investment that can be used for the lifetime of the product.
The Aircraft and Power Generation fields pioneered FEA to satisfy the challenge of designing products in these highly safety conscious industries. Over the years, the technology has become more affordable for use on consumer, commercial and industrial products. A founding mission of ASR is to bring FEA capabilities to any and all mechanical products.
Delivering Results
ASR’s engineers use FEA to solve problems. It is not enough to identify that a part will overheat or lack the desired durability. ASR will identify problems and suggest solutions. Once a possible solution is agreed upon with a client, it will be implemented in the FEA to verify its effectiveness. The FEA model of your product is a tool for making your product better. ASR’s engineers have the expertise to help you understand the results and rapidly guide design solutions.

Multiphysics
Many products and designs need the combination of FEA and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in order to provide accurate models. We use multiphysics analysis to simulate multiple physical phenomena to provide accurate models. One example is thermal management. It often includes a cooling flow which could be air, water or oil. The velocity distribution of the cooling flow directly impacts the heat transfer rate. By coupling Flow and Heat Transfer analyses into one, FEA can be used as a very powerful tool for the simulation of systems that have thermal management requirements. Another example is the interaction of fluids and solids. Moving fluids apply momentum forces against the solid walls around them. Predicting these forces is another multi-physics problem that ASR has the software and experience to perform.
